Aussie musician Jae Haydon confirmed dead in Bali surfing accident

A body washed up on a Bali beach has been confirmed as Australian musician Jae Haydon.

His family has been extremely anxious since his broken surfboard was discovered washed up at Pedang Pedang beach near the infamous surf sport in Uluwatu, after Haydon got into trouble in big surf.

Arriving in the area last week, Haydon had started his daily surf at 7.30 am at Padang Padang when a strong wind hit him.

Three locals also drowned in the swell.

Haydon has been working around NSW as a solo artist and in bands for the past 15 years. He started out playing guitar in punk rock band Lost in Line, which signed a record deal in Japan.

He was based in Wollongong but also did lengthy residencies in the Snowy Mountains.

He had been taking his tribute to singer-songwriters show to Indonesia, California, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Hawaii; Val d’Isere, France; Fukushima, Japan; Whistler, Canada and New Zealand while indulging in his love for surfing.

During his travels, he had also been writing an album to be released under the name Siren Songs.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is investigating, his sister Heidi told the Daily Mirror Australia.

Surfer Dylan Perese from DP Surfboards has paid tribute to Haydon online, posting: “Yesterday was a very tragic day not only for our local community but for the surfing community as a whole.

“Jae Haydon was surfing solid Uluwatu when he had a terrible accident finding himself unconscious and after failed attempts by a few fellow surfers to get him up on a board he was eventually lost in solid 6-8ft waves beneath the Uluwatu cliffs.

“Jae was one of the nicest most well liked and not to mention talented young guys around! He would always light the room, stage, yard whatever venue with his warmth and incredible tunes that he was so good at and so well known for!

“R.I.P jayboy you will be missed sending love to your family.”
