AU Singles Report: High-profile collabs rise to the top of the charts

Ed Sheeran has prolonged his chart reign for another week and NZ star Lorde made a splash with her much-anticipated comeback single, but it’s high-profile collaborations making huge impacts across the charts in this week’s Australian Singles Report – TMN’s weekly snapshot of 40 local and international charts with predictive data, radio reports and album releases.

A well-placed feature or guest vocal is a proven way to expand a single’s potential audience, but the all-star team-ups are in full force this week. ZAYN & Taylor Swift’s smash hit I Don’t Wanna Live Forever continues to be a staple in the Artist Top 50 and Hot 100, while other collabs are also making their presence known.

Coming out ahead of the race for #1 Most Added To Radio is Calvin Harris’ new single Slide ft. Migos & Frank Ocean. It was an incredibly close call, however, with not much of a gap between Slide and another collab, The Chainsmokers & Coldplay’s Something Just Like This.

“In the end it was the features that helped seal the deal for Harris’ #1,” says TMN’s Charts Manager, Daniel Respall. “Having Frank Ocean on the track opened it up to adoption from alternative radio as well, namely triple j, who added the track to its days rotation and pushed Slide over the line.”

Kygo & Selena Gomez’s tropical house hit It Ain’t Me is making an impact on a number of charts this week. It sits at #4 on the Artist Top 50 and also squeezes into the Top 10 on the Hot 100 up from #34 on its second week in the chart.

Making a total move of 53 places on the Hot 100 is Linkin Park’s Heavy ft. Kiiara, taking this week’s #1 Hot 100 Heatseeker. While the track landed at #20 from #73, it also sits in the Top 10 of both the Shazam Movers and Future Hits charts.

Meanwhile, leading the competition to radio next week is the long awaited return of Lorde with her new track Green Light. Moving in a refreshingly different direction to most tracks on commercial, it’s more than likely to be next week’s Most Added single to radio.
