Arts Centre Melbourne returns electronic producer workshop for females, trans and gender non-conforming
A six-week workshop called Operator is held in Melbourne for women, trans and gender non-conforming individuals to hone their skills as electronic music producers.
It is part of the Australian Music Vault’s education program and held at Arts Centre Melbourne’s The Channel from October 4 to November 8.
The opportunity to work with established female producers and mentors will allow these up and coming artists to further develop their skills in using music production software including beginner-level learning of Ableton Live, electronic music production basics and an introduction to preparing for live performance.
Arts Centre Melbourne said, “Operator supports the enhanced presence of women in electronic music production, with a focus on strengthening networks, creating new connections, and offering a space for open questioning and discussion.
“Participants should already have some musical experience in songwriting and performing, as well as have a musical goal in mind they would like to achieve.”
Since its inception in 2016, Operator has been a part of the education-based programs that Arts Centre Melbourne offer, with the particular aim to push female representation in electronica.
No longer do women need to rely on others to produce their own work with Operator allowing females more independence and freedom.
The six-week workshop program will see industry mentors Zoe Rinkel, Kids At Midnight, Bek Varcoe and Alice Ivy take the lead.
The first two workshops will be taught by Zoe Rinkel, and will be an introduction to Ableton Live including setup and navigation, creating drum tracks and tracks, using MIDI, session view and arrangement view.
Bek Varcoe will detail sound engineering basics and mixing in Ableton.
Kids At Midnight will show how to record and manipulate audio tracks with an introduction to Audio Effects.
The penultimate week taught by Alice Ivy will go through sampling in Ableton.
The final week will be taught by Bek Varcoe and Alice Ivy together and will allow for live performances with Ableton.
