ARIA Chart Predictions: Can Jessica Mauboy thwart Like A Version’s streak on the Albums Chart?

THE HOME FRONT

Compilation and soundtrack albums are off to a flying start on the upcoming ARIA Albums Chart, according to midweek numbers. triple j’s annual Like A Version album is performing as well as you’d expect. The previous four Like A Versions have all gone straight to #1.

Jessica Mauboy’s The Secret Daughter Season Two (Songs From The Original 7 Series) was released last Friday and it is set to challenge for the top spot. With songs like ‘Fallin’’ and the singer’s latest single ‘Then I Met You’, it’s a surefire pick for the Top 3.

Other notable debuts include Heaven Upside Down from shock rock fiend Marilyn Manson and Liam Gallagher’s As You Were. Manson has hit the summit on the Albums Chart once before with 1998LPMechanical Animals.

It’s very quiet on the singles front in terms of debuts. Post Malone’s ‘rockstar’ follow-on ‘I Fall Apart’ will land in the lower tier of the chart, as will new singles from P!NK and Sam Smith, howeverboth will undoubtedly gain further momentum over the coming weeks.

Both Camila Cabello’s ‘Havana’ ft. Young Thug and Ed Sheeran’s romantic ballad ‘Perfect’ are moving fast up the Singles Chart. They will likely find their place in the Top 5 this week.

OVERSEAS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

Liam Gallagher’s debut solo effort As You Were is in pole position to snag #1 in the UK. As reported by NME, the album currently has more sales than the rest of the Top 20, which includes Giggs, The Darkness and Marilyn Manson.

In fact, the 79,000 units that he’s sold so far through streaming and physical sales makes As You Were the highest-selling album at the midweek stage since Ed Sheeran’s ÷ hit shelves in March.

Following his passing last week, Tom Petty isn’t backing down on the charts. The late American rock star has seen five of his album return to the Billboard 200 albums chart, the highest being Greatest Hits by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Interestingly, of the 84,000 units sold in the week, 52,000 were made up of traditional sales, likely attributed to a large influx in sales from traditional Petty fans.
