Collection society APRA AMCOS has inked a pan-Asian digital licensing agreement with local company ORiGiN Music.

The new partnership marks the fifth publisher to work with APRA AMCOS as part of their Pan-Asian digital licensing and administration initiative launched in July 2013. The others include Hillsong Music, Universal Music Publishing, Imagem and Peermusic.

Under the agreement with ORiGiN, APRA AMCOS will represent the publisher’s catalogues across key mobile and online digital music and media services, licensing ORiGiN’s repertoire on a multi-territory basis throughout the Asia region, including India and China.

Rights holders, service providers and users alike are benefiting from APRA AMCOS’s efficient multi-territorial licensing initiative as legal digital services begin to gain traction across the continent.

ORiGiN co-founder Philip Walker spoke of the new deal: “Asia is a key region in our global expansion strategy and we are excited to join the APRA AMCOS Pan-Asian licensing hub, a proven multi-territory digital regional hub that will ensure our songwriters get paid fairly and efficiently in this notoriously difficult market”.

“ORiGiN are an exciting and fast growing independent player with an extremely important roster of Australian and international writers,” says APRA AMCOS Chief Executive Brett Cottle.

He added: “We’re excited to be partnering with them as they push towards their 25th year in the business as a true global player. This agreement signifies the importance of the Asian digital market.”

As part of their global expansion strategy, ORiGiN have been busy securing partnerships with a multitude of publishers and music companies, including recent deals with Knight Music Publishing and Bucks Music.

ORiGiN represents both local and international artist catalogues including Du Vinage, District 6, Just Isn’t Music (Ninja Tunes), Shubert Music, Wally De Backer, James Morrison and Cookin’ On Three Burners.
