APRA AMCOS is celebrating a major milestone in its 92-year history, welcoming its 100,000th member.

The lucky musician is Natsuko Yonezawa, an electronic music producer and DJ who first interacted with APRA back in high school while participating in the organisation’s SongMakers program, a two-day intensive contemporary music workshop for teenagers.

“From the most established members with decades of composing and songwriting experience, to the new generation who are releasing their music digitally and playing their first gigs,” APRA AMCOS chief executive Dean Ormston said.

“APRA AMCOS is committed to supporting all of our 100,000 songwriter, composer and music publisher members in impactful ways throughout their career.

“These include being introduced to music industry opportunities at school through SongMakers, learning about songcraft at the Starting Ground workshops presented by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office, right through to collaborating with high-profile international producers at SongHubs.”

Ormston welcomed Yonezawa into the organisation in person while attending meetings at Parliament House last week.

APRA AMCOS is a constant champion of emerging and establishing musicians, most recently striking a landmark deal with Facebook to ensure that Australian musicians are compensated for their creative content used on the platform.
