APRA AMCOS unveils program for gaming music conference High Score

APRA AMCOS’ High Score: Composition and Sound Art for Gaming event is going virtual once again in 2021.

Featuring keynotes, panels, feedback and networking sessions, the annual conference will take place as a free two-day online event this year between Saturday October 2 and Sunday October 3, with organisers touting this year’s conference as its biggest yet.

Appearing as keynote speakers for this year’s conference are California-based composer and sound designers Julie Buchanan (Say No! More) and Jordan Chin (Monster Train), while ABC’s Spawn Point host Angharad ‘Rad’ Yeo and journalist Jini Maxwell will serve as hosts.

Other notable events at this year’s High Score include a session with Orchestra Victoria conductor Nicolette Fraillon, as well as educational sessions with Chel Wong, Beethoven & Dinosaur, Zander Hulme and Playside Studios.

As part of Melbourne International Games Week, a further spin-off event High Score: Co-op will also allow for APRA AMCOS members to work with games composer Chris O’Neill to assist in composing tracks for the upcoming electronic music game Rhythm XD.

High Score program manager and APRA AMCOS screen music lead, Greg Morrow, welcomed the return of the conference for another year and said that this year would be its biggest event yet.

“High Score has come a long way in its five years and we continually strive to build an event that includes skills development and building connections between developers and music creators to help make game music an accessible professional opportunity,” Morrow said.

“Anyone making music or games and who wants to learn more is encouraged to join us online for the event.”

High Score is open for participants worldwide. Registration is open now.
