Gold Coast breakthrough artist Amy Shark picked up three awards at the 2017 QLD Music Awards staged last night at Brisbane Powerhouse.
Shark, who is currently on a national tour, nabbed the coveted Song of the Year prize for standout single Adore while also winning the Regional and Pop awards, with the latter belonging to Shark for a second year running.
Last week, Adore exceeded 10 million streams and was certified Platinum for Australian sales of 70,000. The hit gained original exposure on triple j’s Unearthed and then on the big-sister station, before eventually taking out #2 on the Hottest 100 in January this year.
Violent Soho picked up Album of the Year for their acclaimed LP WACO. The publicly voted awards were taken out by Dami Im, Jarryd James and Cub Sport for Most Popular Female, Most Popular Male and Most Popular Group, respectively.
Brisbane metalcore outfit Amity Affliction won the Export Achievement Award, serving to recognise and celebrate the commercial success of Queensland artists. The group also produced the Highest Selling Album with 2016’s This Could Be Heartbreak.
Pop duo The Veronicas’ smash hit In My Blood won the award for Highest Selling Single. This follows the track’s double nomination at last year’s ARIA Awards for Best Pop Release and Song of the Year.
