Amy Shark chosen as first Australian act for Apple Music’s Up Next, how many million streams will it generate?
Amy Shark has become the first Australian to be an Apple Music’s Up Next artist.
Up Next is Apple Music’s monthly program set up to showcase and increase the global profile of an emerging artist flexing its clout.
Overt the next months, she’ll get a massive exposure in Australia/NZ, USA, Canada, UK, throughout Europe and Latin America.
The Gold Coast singer/songwriter said, “I’m honoured to be a part of Apple Music’s Up Next campaign.
“I’ve followed it from the beginning and love the content they put together and the insight they give into up-and-coming artists so I’m beyond grateful to be featured alongside people like Khalid and 6lack.”
As part of the deal, Apple Music is promoting her songs on their playlists and on the iiTunes store, and done a mini-documentary introducing her to the global audience.
Of the documentary she admitted, “The struggle was real. The times were tough. But I can tell you all right now, it was worth it. Thank you for telling my story Apple Music #UpNext.”
There are Amy Shark billboards confirmed for NYC (14th & 9th Street), LA (6201 Hollywood Blvd) and in Sydney with over 200 Citylights for four weeks focusing on the CBD, Circular Quay and Martin Place.
Shark was interviewed by Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, during which she told him, “I’m forever cherry-picking moments of life. You know, parties I’ve been at or relationships I’ve been in.
“My memory is mental. That’s why I called me EP Night Thinker.
“I’m forever digesting things I;ve said or over-analysing what someone said to me.
“That’s who I am. It gets pretty intense. My release has always been my music.”

The first act on the series was 6lack (aka Ricardo Valdez), a 24-year-old rapper from Atlanta. Within the first week, his debut single ‘PRBLMS’ had a million streams which soon developed into 8 million views.
Meantime Shark is back in Australia after a whirlwind European tour and two huge supports in North America with Vance Joy and Bleachers respectively.
Her next major appearance will be on the ARIA Awards for which she goes in with six nominations, including for Song ot the Year for the double platinum ‘Adore’.
“There’s no other way I’d rather end this incredible year than with a performance at the ARIAs,” she says enthusiastically.
“There’s been so many exciting things going on in my life recently but coming home to this will be a very special moment.”
