Following a four-year stint working as the studio's in-house engineer, Brisbane-based producer/instrumentalist Aidan Hogg has purchased an ownership stake in The Plutonium recording studio.

The acquisition now sees Hogg co-own the studio alongside existing owners Luke McDonald and Pete Bernoth (The John Steel Singers, Holiday Party), who initially opened the studio in the Brisbane suburb of Kelvin Grove in 2013.

Since opening, The Plutonium has accommodated a host of revered local acts like Tame Impala, Violent Soho, Holy Holy and Hatchie, with this year seeing the likes of Thelma Plum, G Flip, Eves Karydas and Hope D utilise the studio.

Hogg, who trained under LA-based producer Miro Mackie (St Vincent, Wallows) and also plays bass with Jaguar Jonze, said that the buy into The Plutonium was a "no-brainer", noting that he's worked extensively out of the space since interning there in 2016.

"Pluto has always been about being a creative and comfortable space for artists - we’ve got a great selection of mics and outboard, but more importantly we’ve kept the space affordable as to not price out indie and emerging artists," Hogg told The Music Network.

"We’ve had some of the biggest bands in the world come through and we also have new bands using the space for their first-ever recordings, and we’re always looking to keep the space accessible in that way."

Hogg also detailed his plans to expand The Plutonium's current setup, sharing that the owners are looking to set up a second workspace to function as a writing space for artists.

"We’re currently planning on having a second setup so the studio can not only run as one large-scale studio, but as two individual writer rooms when needed," Hogg said.

"There’s more and more demand for writing spaces in Brisbane so we’re stoked to be able to have more people using the space for writing collaborations. We’ve also got some new gear on the way growing our mic and preamp options."

The Plutonium has also launched its brand new website with a full list of equipment and contact details.
