Adelaide’s The Gov takes out best national entertainment venue
Adelaide’s The Gov aka the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel took out the best national entertainment venue at the 2017 Australian Hotels Association awards for excellence.
The Gov has been run by the Tonkin family for 24 years, and is one of the few music venues to be run by an all-female team.
This includes owners Jo and Melissa Tonkin, hotel manager Kat Teale and venue manager Coco Hubner.
The award was for the hotel’s safe, inclusive and well maintained facilities (including state of the art light and sound system) and support to artists and audiences on every level.
Jo and Melissa Tonkin joined the other 500 guests at the awards ceremony at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
Melissa Tonkin attributed the win to the hard work of hotel staff.
“It isn’t possible to win such a prestigious award without everyone’s commitment to creating a great atmosphere and excellent service,” she said
“We love being the home of live music in South Australia, and hope that visitors to our state come by and enjoy The Gov on their travels.
“It’s an award we share with the amazing artists who continue to bring their magic to The Gov, and also the audiences who understand how captivating live music can be and get along to enjoy the shows time after time.”
In the state/territory categories, the best entertainment venue category went to the Ivy Bar in Sydney for NSW, Alma Tavern in Norwood for South Australia, and Settlers Tavern in Margaret River for West Australia.
Other live music venues in other categories included Lion Hotel in North Adelaide (best overall hotel in SA), Darwin’s Monsoons nightclub (best marketed hotel) and Townsville’s Exchange Hotel which took out Queensland’s overall regional hotel of the year and best regional bar for presentation and service.
