Adelaide’s Fowler’s Live closing in December
Adelaide live music venue Fowler’s Live will close in early December after 15 years in operation.
In late 2014, Arts SA announced that it planned to use the performance space of the Fowler’s building as a multi-use arts facility.
Peter Darwin, the operator of Fowler’s Live, has been in negotiations for the past four years, and was advised by government that he needed to reapply for a future tenancy.
In August, Darwin re-applied to continue but was advised late yesterday that he was unsuccessful in his application.
He had also been scouting for an alternate site but could not find the right one that would work as a live music venue.
As a result, it is about to announce its final run of shows.
Aside from offering a wide range of styles, as well as being one of the few to stage under-age shows, Fowler’s Live had this year begun initiatives to collaborate with similar-minded US venues.
More recently it partnered with a local streaming service to highlight emerging South Australian acts to the globe.
