Acclaim Mag’s new initiative to spotlight Aussie hip hop acts

Australia’s longest-running hip hop platform Acclaim Mag has announced the launch of The Acclaim 2020 All-Stars.

The new initiative sees Acclaim Mag partner with JD Sports Australia to highlight and offer a financial boost to some of the country’s rising hip hop stars.

The Acclaim 2020 All-Stars will run over a two month period, with Acclaim shortlisting talent for over $60,000 in prizes.

The shortlisted talent will be profiled across a series of interactive, digital content features, before the finalists will feature on a 2020 Finals Team digital cover.

“The recent international successes of artists including Tkay Maidza, The Kid Laroi, ONEFOUR and Sampa The Great point to a local hip hop community that has proven its ability to consistently produce world-class artists,” Acclaim Mag said in a press release.

“Australia is on the precipice of its ‘powder keg’ moment that will see our scene explode locally as well as exporting globally in the years ahead.”

The three awards categories for The Acclaim 2020 All-Stars are Rookie of the Year (best new talent) presented by PUMA, The People’s Champ (people’s choice) and MVP (song of the year).

Prizes include recording equipment and software, footwear and apparel, industry-specific legal services, advertising and PR support, international industry support and mentorship.

As well as the three main categories, one emerging artist or group will receive a Wild Card to feature in the All-Stars Finals Team, as part of a partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre.

The Rookie of the Year award will be voted for by a peer panel of judges, made up of over 50 trusted industry proponents including managers, agents, publicists, journalists, photographers and more.

Meanwhile, the other prizes will be publicly voted, and winners in each category are set to be unveiled weekly from late November via the debut of a series of digital cover features.

In addition to the career-advancing support and advice from some of the industry’s best, a custom made trophy will be presented to each category winner in recognition of their achievement.

Acclaim Mag’s other partners include HipHopCharts.com.au, Sounds Australia, RODE Microphones, Sound Of The Future, Call & Response, Media Arts Lawyers, Super Special and Archetype Media.

Voting opens from October 1.
