The Aussies are headed to the Big Apple.

Led by Australian Music Prize winners A.B. Original and Hermitude, a six-pack of homegrown acts will flex their musical muscles on the SummerStage in Central Park on June 22 to celebrate the Aussie BBQ’s ten-year anniversary.

Also representing are San Cisco, The Teskey Brothers, Tkay Maidza and WAAX, while A.B. Original, after emerging as one of the country’s brightest hip-hop outfits with a swag of ARIA and APRA Awards, will make their U.S. debut on the day.

Organised through a partnership with Sounds Australia, the Australian Consul-General, New York and the Australia Council for the Arts, the concert will mark the first time Sounds Australia has showcased in NYC since the CMJ Music Marathon wrapped up in 2015.

Sounds Australia is keen to see the Aussies invade Central Park for years to come. “Being able to present a line-up of such important talent, in the heart of New York City in celebration of ten years of exporting Australian music to the world, is a milestone event we are incredibly proud of,” comments Millie Millgate, Sounds Australia Executive Producer in a statement. “We are hoping that this inaugural showcase is only the first of many and just the beginning of a long term partnership with SummerStage.”

Australian Consul-General to New York, Alastair Walton chimed in: “The sharing of cultures and art between our two great countries is what makes us such close friends.” Earlier this year the Consulate brought the triple j Hottest 100 countdown to New York and supported former Hottest 100 winners The Rubens on their tour of North America.” The upcoming event is “going to be a fantastic afternoon with long reaching connections and impact,” Walton notes.

Over the past ten years, 851 Australian acts have showcased with Sounds Australia, including globetrotting stars Courtney Barnett, Vance Joy, Flume, Dean Lewis and Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker). In that time, the national export platform has hosted 220 showcase events across the world, including SXSW and The Great Escape.

The annual SummerStage, NYC’s largest free outdoor performing arts festival, stretches across nearly 100 free and benefit shows in Central Park and 17 neighborhood parks throughout the city’s five boroughs.
