US reports: Adele album to drop in November

Adele’s long-awaited third album is due to be released in November, according to reports from the US. It is most likely to be titled 26.

After setting up a huge fan base for her first two albums, she has been under pressure from the music industry to deliver the third. But she has stood her ground, insisting she will only release it when she’s happy with it.

Her second album 21 four years ago is the best selling album of this decade, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. It topped the charts in over 30 countries, including Australia and was named best album at the Grammys and the Brit awards. It sold 26 million units worldwide, 4.7 million of those in her native UK and 10 million in the US.

In Australia, where it released through XL Recordings/ Remote Control Records, it stayed at #1 spot for 32 weeks. It is one of 13 albums which sold over a million copies in this country – and the first in the ten years since Delta Goodrem achieved it in 2003.

It joined John Farnham’s Whispering Jack (which tops the list with 1.6 million), Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms, The Best of Abba, Shania Twain’s Come On Over, Delta Goodrem’s Innocent Eyes, Abba’s Arrival, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, the Grease soundtrack, Queen’s Greatest Hits and Alanis Morrisette’s Jagged Little Pill.

Fans’ anticipation for the third album is understandably high. She has worked with a range of creatives, including Danger Mouse as a major collaborator, and Max Martin, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder (who produced and co-wrote Rumour Has It on 21) and Canadian troubadour Tobias Jesso Jr. among co-writers. Ed Sheeran reported on a British radio interview that people who worked on it told him it was “really good”.

Adele picked up a Golden Globe, Oscar and Grammy in 2013 for her song Skyfall that she wrote and recorded for the James Bond film.

In October 2012, she had a son Angelo with entrepreneur Simon Konecki.
