ORiGiN Music to rep sound designer & filmmaker Peter Miller
ORiGiN Music has signed Australian sound designer, musician, filmmaker and digital image artist Peter Miller, to represent his past and future recorded works.
Aside from numerous local and international music videos, Melbourne-based Miller aka Scribbletronics did the sound design for The Ring, Rango, Adoration, In The Cut and Mad Max: Fury Road.
The videos included Crowded House’s ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ and INXS’s ‘Kiss The Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain)’.
The first release of the new deal is the enhanced soundtrack album that Miller created for ‘80s cult film Spirits Of the Air, Gremlins of The Clouds.
The soundtrack, originally released on Warner Music, came with a video that featured singer Karina Hayes of post punk band SPK and still gets a spin on ABC-TV’s overnight show Rage.
The film was made by young film collective Meaningful Eye Contact, which Miller was part of, and included director Alex Proyas who went on to make Dark City, The Crow and I Robot.
Miller’s path included jingles as the multi award-winning Schwarzkopf Raphael while his original ambient sound work Strangeness + Charm was commissioned by Qantas for their Sydney First Class Lounge.
Also set for release through the new deal are the entire Strangeness + Charm works and further previously unreleased material.
“The wonderful thing is music like this doesn’t have a use by date. Its ethereal, film-like quality is as inspiring and imaginative as when it was first conceived,” ORiGiN creative director Philip Mortlock says.
The partnership marks full circle for Miller and Mortlock.
When the latter was creative manager at Warner Music Australia, he took a punt on the unknown Meaningful Eye Contact to shoot the video of INXS’s ‘Kiss The Dirt’.
The shoot, showing the band performing on a salt lake and on the moon plains in Coober Pedy in South Australia, helped established MEC’s reputation.
INXS flew back from the US to the site, shot the video overnight, and returned to America the next day.
