Jaxsta is getting into the music publishing game, unveiling a new portal led by the Australian company’s head of original content Rod Yates.

The world’s largest database of official music credits announced a new editorial portal, with features on established Grammy-winning artists and local up-and-comers.

Yates, a journalist for over two decades, formerly served as the editor of Rolling Stone Australia.

In today’s announcement, Jaxsta revealed the editorial content will reflect the diverse range of genres and artists contained within Jaxsta’s groundbreaking database.

“Jaxsta’s database of official music credits is rich with stories waiting to be told, and I’m so happy to help tell them,” Yates said.

“We have some incredibly exciting plans for Jaxsta’s original content – watch this space!”

Several original features are already live on the portal, with local band The Rubens dissecting 10 key songs from their career, rapper Briggs highlighting his most influential the hip-hop albums and country trio The McClymonts also share a track-by-track breakdown of their new album.

There’s also the first of a series of columns by Grammy-winning engineer John Hanes, and syndicated feeds to the latest music news from publications including Variety, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Rap Up, Stereogum and Alternative Press.

“I’m beyond thrilled that Jaxsta is now developing its own original content,” Jacqui Louez Schoorl said, Jaxsta’s CEO & co-founder. “One of the key ideas driving Jaxsta has been to tell the story behind the music by shining a light on all those incredible people who create it.

“Rod’s curation of our content and his ability to interview creative souls are exemplary, as evidenced by the work he’s done on our podcast.

“Those interviews are truly compelling. I’m so proud of the work he’s produced and I’m excited about this major enhancement of Jaxsta.”

The portal’s launch comes half a year after Yates began hosting Jaxsta’s Humans Of Music podcast, featuring one-on-one conversations with some of the world’s biggest artists and industry figures.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Jaxsta is also currently offering Jaxsta Pro for free, valued at $150 per year, to music industry professionals for the remainder of 2020. You can register here.
