”Artists are at the heart of every creative city and Melbourne, as a
creative city, supports its artists through these Annual Arts Grants,” the
Lord Mayor said. ”This year we are also dedicating specific funding
through our Indigenous Arts Program which will enable Indigenous artists
to continue to tell the stories of the worlds oldest continuous culture.
I congratulate all the recipients and look forward to seeing the resulting
works which will collectively reach an audience of 900,000 people.”
Chair of Arts and Culture, Councillor Rohan Leppert said, “The City of
Melbourne has a vital role to play in supporting artists. Investment is a
key part of a thriving creative city. These grants allow new works to be
imagined and developed by providing support for artists at all stages of
their career. The grants will employ over 1,000 artists across a variety
of art forms and almost 75 per cent of the work produced will result in
free experiences for audiences.”
The annual arts grants are underpinned by the City of Melbournes
commitment to support artists to test, develop and realise ideas, as
outlined under the Funding theme in the City of Melbourne Arts Strategy
2014-17.
