Telstra and ARIA have confirmed the return of its Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Award.

The honour launched in partnership with The Song Room in 2017 and recognises the incredible contribution of music teachers throughout Australia.

This year, more than any other, Australians are reminded of the importance of teachers as they adapt and adopt technology during the pandemic.

Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Award will again recognise educators for their hard work, creativity and their dedication to both students and local communities.

ARIA said the award also helps to shine a light on the importance of music education and student engagement as it opens nominations today for this year’s event.

The Australian public is invited to nominate outstanding music teachers, with submissions expected from all parts of the country and for teachers across every age group.

ARIA chief Dan Rosen said celebrating music teachers has become a highlight of the ARIA Awards.

“It’s our chance to shine a light on the amazing work of music teachers all around Australia, from our inner cities to our most remote communities,” he said.

“We have had some incredible winners and nominees in previous years, and I can’t wait to discover the stories of this year’s entrants.”

After nominations close, a public and music industry voting process will be conducted with the winner revealed at the 2020 ARIA Awards in November.

Previous winners include Antonio Chiappetta (2019, St Andrews College, NSW), Scott Maxwell (2018, Grant High School, SA) and Renee McCarthy (2017, Woodcroft College, SA).
