ITUNES LAUNCHES IN AUSTRALIA

The iPod launched in 2001, with a notable campaign featuring Australian act Jet’s stomping Are You Gonna Be My Girl? airing in 2003. By this time, the way people imbibed music had shifted irreversibly, and considering Apple controlled the hardware, it made sense for it to sell the music played on the iPod. The iTunes Store opened in 2003, finally making its way Down Under in October 25 2005. By the following February, iTunes announced its billionth song sold. By its tenth anniversary, over 25 billion songs had been sold worldwide through iTunes.
