Australian success abroad: Pnau, 5 Seconds and Guy Sebastian
Sydney dance duo Pnau are back in the European charts. The remix of their 2008 single Baby, retitled Changes by French producers Faul and Wad Ad, has gone #1 in Germany and Top 10 in France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Last week it went to #2 in the UK midweek charts.
5 Seconds of Summer, whose She Looks So Perfect this week topped the charts in Australia, NZ, UK and Ireland, also looks set for a strong American debut with the Perfect EP. Released there April 1 via Capitol, it is tipped to sell 150,000-200,000 first week, judging by pre-orders and social media buzz.
Its international achievement has seen it debut at #25 on the Billboard Social 50. The Australian boy band toured America with One Direction last year, and return to play the US on April 11. They then reconnect with One Direction in a run through Europe, the US and Canada from May 23. In Australia, their seven theatre shows through Live Nation for April/May have sold out.
Guy Sebastian’s Australian double-Platinum Like A Drum has entered the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and getting strong airplay. It was also named Top 5 buzz-worthy singles of the week by MTV.
Since signing to the Cherry label last year for the US, the R&B singer has focused on the American market, where his link up with Lupe Fiasco, Battle Scars, sold a million units. Like A Drum is also in the Top 20 airplay charts in Poland.
