APRA Awards to be held in Brisbane for the first time
The APRA Music Awards will be held in Brisbane for the first time this year, taking place at Brisbane City Hall on June 23.
From 2015, the APRAs will also be taking place in March, moving away from its usual mid-winter slot. This shift is in order to more evenly space APRA’s calendar of events, as well as to accompany Australian artists who often tour overseas during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer festival season, and as such cannot be present for the June awards.
Ian Walker, Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts, says of the move north: “The APRA Music Awards will be a great addition to Queensland’s contemporary music scene. The Queensland Government supports Queensland as a hub for contemporary music, musicians and new music discovery through events, such as BIGSOUND.”
APRA AMCOS will be announcing the short list contenders for the APRA Song of the Year in mid-April.
