MIIESHA TEAMS WITH EMI & VILLAGE

Fast-rising Pitjantjatjara/Torres Strait Islander Miiesha (pronounced My-ee-sha) has joined EMI Music Australia and Village Sounds for live representation.

John O’Donnell, managing director of EMI Music Australia,  who signed up the 20-year old after her BIGSOUND showcase said, “We are really excited to start working closely with Miiesha.

“Miiesha’s story and her musical identity is incredibly powerful and singular. We look forward to helping her bring that music to life.”

The video for her debut single  ‘Drowning’ features children from First Nation community of Woorabinda in Central Queensland – where she began singing with the community as an eight-year-old.

Miiesha explains, “I like to carry my culture wherever I go; carry my people, my community. It’s very important, spiritually.”

Inspired by the sounds of RnB, gospel and soul, and the power of spoken word poetry, Miiesha’s music seeks to bring people together to help educate and inspire.

At Village Music, Miiesha is repped by senior agent Katie Rynne who says, “I felt an instant connection to the music and after seeing her performing live and the joy that she brought to the audience, I knew that I had an extremely important artist in front of me.

“First stop, Woorabinda, next stop, the world.”

ETCETC CLICKS WITH ELECTRO LABEL SIDECHAINS

Etcetc entered a partnership with Sydney electronic label Sidechains.

Vol 3 of the Sidechains Club compilation series will be out later this year, preceded by single ‘Fantasy’ by producer, singer and songwriter Trophie.

Since beginning as an irregular queer-friendly club night, Sidechains has added a record label and weekly radio show.

Founder Denzel Sterling says he discovered great music via compilations as Bang Gang 12”s.

“The Sidechains compilations allow me to push focus towards up and coming Australian producers/vocalists that I believe are the next wave of musicians really moving our music and culture forward into exciting new areas.”

UNFD EXPANDS WITH LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES

UNFD added US metalcore giants Like Moths To Flames, to the roster. Newly dropped single and video ‘All That You Lost’ harks back in sound to their early days.

Vocalist Chris Roetter notes a “huge sense of revival” in the ranks after ten years, adding, “UNFD has done amazing things for our team in a very short amount of time and we are heavily anticipating the future and what’s to come.”

ZENNITH ADDED TO KMBA ROSTER

North Queensland reggae group Zennith has joined the KMBA Agency, a First Nation artist event management company with operations in Australia and the US.

Its Los Angeles based director Sam Cook first met Zennith a decade ago when she was the director of the Dreaming Festival and a programmer of the Woodford Folk Festival.

Zennith, based around brothers Aden and Astro, were recently in Jamaica, recording their Ancient Warrior album at the legendary Tuff Gong studio in Kingston with producers including Clive Hunt whose credits include; Jimmy Cliff, Steely & Clevie and The Rolling Stones.

Ancient Warrior is out on October 11 via US reggae and dancehall distributor and record label Zojak World Wide. Leadoff single ‘I Like It’ features a collaboration with Jessie Royal.

Cook explains, “Our strategy will be to take Zennith to the world, they represent a rich legacy and a story that deserves to be told.”

CROCODYLUS JOIN XRAY TOURING UK

Sydney band Crocodylus revealed they signed to UK booking agency Xray Touring, ahead of the September 27 release of their third EP Enjoy.

It is out on Friday, September 27 through The Chats’ Bargain Bin Records.

The two bands toured Australia together in June and became good friends.

Xray Touring reps names as Queens of the Stone Age, Pixies, Anderson Paak and Courtney Love, alongside local names Hockey Dad, Dune Rats and Crooked Colours.

Booker Shaun Faulkner is delighted with the new addition, stating “Absolute pleasure to have Crocodylus at Xray and on my roster, watch out Europe they are gonna SLAY.”

Crocodylus hit the road in Australia on their Enjoy Tour through October with Israeli Chicks and Pistol Peaches.
