OneLove appoints marketing head; new drive team for Triple M; Sophie McNeill leaves Hack; new CEO for Rdio

OneLove appoints marketing head, launching new divisions

Electronic dance music label OneLove CEO Frank Cotela announced he’s appointed Bev Malcolm as Marketing Director, and will be launching artist development and music publishing divisions in early 2014. Malcolm was Marketing and Entertainment Manager for Home nightclub in Sydney (for Pacha, Sublime & Mobile Home) for six years. More recently she was A&R and Commercial Development Manager at EMI Music, whilst operating as Head Promoter for Stereosonic Sydney. Malcolm will now be responsible for local and international marketing for the OneLove label, and will continue to head up Sydney’s Stereosonic team for SFX Totem OneLove.

Triple M announces new drive team

Former Fox FM breakfast host Matt Tilley and Sydney columnist and Studio 10 host Joe Hildebrand make up Triple M’s new national drive team.

Sophie McNeill leaves triple j

Triple j confirmed that Hack presenter Sophie McNeill, won’t be returning after her maternity leave. Tom Tilley will be sole host of Hack in 2014.

720 ABC Perth loses drive host

720 ABC Perth’s drive host for the past nine years, Russell Woolf, told listeners he is leaving for new experiences, including MC work.

Management changes for John Mayer, NIN

The 13 year partnership of John Mayer and manager Michael McDonald of Mick Management is over. They began working before Mayer’s debut album’s launched him onto a career which sold 20 million albums worldwide and seven Grammy wins. His next world tour begins in Australia in 2014.

Nine Inch Nails, on the eve of their Oz trip, split from their long time manager Jim Guerinot (Offspring, No Doubt, Robbie Robertson, Josh Freese) to join Silva Artist Management (Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Ryan Adams, Beck).

Steve Romer exiting SEC

Steve Romer, outgoing General Manager of the Sydney Entertainment Centre (SEC) for the past four years, will wind up this week. After 12 years in Sydney, he is returning to the Gold Coast where he spent 20 years in theme parks. Under his watch, the SEC went from #37 to #2 in Billboard’s world rankings of medium-sized venues, won the 2012 Arena Excellence Award from the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), the first by any venue outside of North America, and two Australian catering wins.

New CEO for Rdio

After a five month search, Rdio announced Anthony Bay as its CEO. He headed Amazon’s video business, developed media tech at Microsoft and lead Apple’s Online Services. Former CEO Drew Larner will stay on as vice-chairman and strategic advisor to the company’s board

Former Sony exec Marchant goes freelance
