SOCIAL FAMILY FINDS ANSWER

NSW-based Social Family Records added another overseas name to its roster.

It will issue Irish rock band The Answer’s singer Cormac Neeson’s Americana country/soul album White Feather which charted in the UK.

Neeson is putting together a solo band with which to tour the US and Australia.

Social Family Records’ roster includes Golden Guitar winning alumni, Andrew Swift, Kirsty Lee Akers, and Jetty Road, and America’s Caroline Jones.

DOUBLE DEAL FOR STP

Back in the spotlight with two deals is the catalogue of Stone Temple Pilots, the ‘90s band which sold 40 million records.

Warner Chappell Music will administer their catalogue worldwide, including debut album Core which sold 8 million in the US and certified platinum in Australia.

At the same time, Sony/ATV inked a deal to represent the catalogue of the band’s late singer Scott Weiland who co-wrote their first six albums.

HOLLOW COVES JOIN 123 MUSIC

Brisbane folk duo Hollow Coves has joined Melbourne-headquartered booking agency 123 just as they drop new single ‘When We Were Young’.

They say the song began as a reflection of the simple life, “but people can often get so caught up wishing things were the way they used to be that they don’t realise how beautiful life can be in this moment.

“Right now, life can be beautiful in every season.”

Hollow Coves’ debut 2017 EP Wanderlust yielded singles: ‘Coastline’ and ‘Home’ which surpassed 30 million streams each on Spotify.

‘The Woods’, both the original and acoustic versions, collectively gathered 40 million streams and over 10 million views on YouTube and led to global touring.

HILLSONG LANDS EUROPEAN DEAL

Sydney HQ’d Christian and commercial genre Hillsong’s music publishing operations – Hillsong Music Publishing and Shout! Music Publishing – signed an administration and writer development agreement in Europe with Universal Music Publishing Group.

Hillsong is the music publishing arm of Hillsong Church, which has locations in 23 countries and 200,000 worshippers a week.

Hillsong Music Publishing covers Hillsong Worship, Hillsong Young & Free, Hillsong United and Hillsong Kids.

Hillsong Worship won a Grammy in 2018 for best contemporary Christian music performance/song with ‘What A Beautiful Name’ by Ben Fielding & Brooke Ligertwood.

Hillsong United’s song ‘Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)’ by Joel Houston, Matt Crocker and Salomon Ligthelm is certified double platinum in the United States.

Hillsong Young & Free were nominated for a Grammy in 2016 for their album Youth Revival.

WARNER CHAPPELL IN THE ROUND

Warner Chappell Music and New York-based Round Hill entered into a global sub-publishing partnership and to find new opportunities.

It includes Australia as part of the world but not North America, Britain and the Nordics.

Round Hill artists include Australian expatriates Confidence Man, as well as Duran Duran co-founder Andy Taylor, American Authors, Sleater-Kinney, Florida Georgia Line and Royal Teeth.

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE DUO STRIKE AWAL DEAL

Round Here Records, the label founded by Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, signed a world partnership with AWAL.

The deal begins with supplying marketing, campaign coordination, sync licensing and distribution for singer-songwriter Canaan Smith, who had a #1 country hit in the US in 2014 with ‘Love You Like That.’

VIC AUGUST MAKES TOMMY BOY DEBUT

Melbourne teen rap and singer songwriter prodigy Vic August who’s had #1 hip hop projects with Truths has now signed with Tommy Boy, the legendary New York hip and electro label which launched Afrika Bambaataa, Queen Latifah, House of Pain, De La Soul and Naughty By Nature.

The Australia’s label debut is ‘Approach’ featuring Socialblight and UKNWN, and off the November-due xx EP.

He has already picked up co-signs from Ebro on Beats 1 and Spotify – landing on the cover of their ‘Mellow Styles’ playlist.
