New date for Screen Music Awards, plus hosts and Musical Director announced
The Screen Music Awards are traditionally held in November. But this year, they have been moved to Monday, December 9 (Sydney State Theatre) to take place just after short film festival Tropfest. The winner of Tropscore will perform their original film composition on December 8 in front of a Tropfest crowd of 90,000 in Centennial Park.
“What better way to highlight the significant role music plays in film, than by hosting the Screen Music Awards straight after Tropfest,” said Brett Cottle, CEO of APRA AMCOS who organise the awards with the Australian Guild of Screen Composers.
“We are delighted with the move and look forward to celebrating those talented composers who have achieved great milestones in bringing the stories we enjoy on screen, to life.”
There are 13 categories in all, including most performed composer here and abroad, as well as the International Achievement Award. Hosts are, again, The Chaser’s Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen, with Musical Director being US based Australian born composer Ashley Irwin (Hereafter, J. Edgar).
Nominees for most categories are announced on Thursday November 7.
