New version of Australian app Discovr hits the market

Perth-based Filter Squad, which makes apps for iOS and Mac, put a new version of its hit app Discovr Music on the market this week. The original app, which costs $4.99 in the store, had over 3 million downloads and was the top selling app in 52 countries. Australia is its third biggest territory for sales, after Japan and the US, and accounts for 10% of its global sales, according to David McKinney, who co-founded the company with Stuart Hall in 2011.

McKinney said they worked for 12 months on rebuilding the app. It now provides more content about the favourite artists of users (including all their music), and allows them more ways to share the music. It’s partnered with Spotify, Rdio, Deezer, Soundcloud and YouTube so users get full length streaming songs right inside the Discovr app.

“It’s really an entirely new app,” McKinney pointed out. “The update is all about solving the most common requests from our customers, in particular full length song streaming.”

Filter Squad, which is negotiating with more partners, also has other releases in the App Store, including Discovr Apps, Discovr People and Discovr Movies.
