Deezer launches new app with 30,000 radio stations

French-based global streaming service Deezer has launched a radio app that allows users to add music and other content being played on-air on 30,000 radio stations around the world.

Called Radio By Deezer, it has begun its roll-out in the UK and Germany for Android (an iOS version is due soon), with other territories to follow.

The availability date for Australia is not yet confirmed.

Radio By Deezer can be used without registering when users search for radio stations, and when they store their most recently played, and most played, stations.

However, users have to sign up to a Deezer account if they want to “like” a song they hear on the radio.

To listen to the song – or comedy routine, talk and sports commentary – again, the app automatically adds the liked songs to the user’s library in the Deezer music streaming service.

Olivier Miljeu, product manager of Radio By Deezer, said: “Radio fans deserve an experience tailored to their exact needs.

“Our easy to use app provides fast access to their favourite stations, all with an undisturbed, ad-free listening experience.

“Gone are the days of thinking it’s too late to get the song you just heard on the radio.

“Now with just a quick tap you can add it straight to your library.”

Deezer this month announced it has 14 million monthly active users around the world, and 7 million subscribers, drawn to its 53 million tracks.

With its recent expansion into the Middle East and North Africa, Deezer expects to generate US$400 million in revenue this year.
