Ambassadors are tapped for their expertise to promote the importance of music creators’ rights and APRA AMCOS’ role in administering those rights to all levels of government, the media and the wider community.

As part of its commitment to gender parity, APRA AMCOS focussed this year on inviting more women from different backgrounds, geographic regions, professions, and musical genres to be ambassadors.

Papua New Guinea-born and Sydney-based songwriter and singer Ngaiire said, “I’m an APRA AMCOS ambassador because, over the span of my career, they have made me feel protected in a country that may not value music and the arts as much as it should.

“APRA AMCOS does extremely important work in creating a safe and prosperous environment for music makers and I am honoured to be an ambassador for an organisation that not only sustains me but helps to sustain the societal and economical framework of Australia.”

Songwriter and TV host Justine Clark pointed out, “Copyright is meaningful to me because of the long-term significance of a piece of work. Music is capable of having a lasting resonance and significance over centuries.”

It fell to APRA AMCOS director of member relations Milly Petriella to invite members to the ambassador program.

“While APRA AMCOS represents our 100,000 members in myriad ways, the most eloquent and affecting spokespersons are our members themselves, which is why our ambassador program is so vital to what we do,” Petriella pointed.

“I’m so pleased to appoint these talented and influential women to be ambassadors and I look forward to their deeper involvement in supporting the rights of music creators globally.”

Appointees earlier this year were Kardajala Kirridarra’s Eleanor Dixon, Emily Wurramara, Holly Rankin (Jack River), Berlin-based producer/writer Jane Arnison, Nashville songwriter Kylie Sackley, hip-hop artist Lady Lash, Adelaide songwriter/singer Nancy Bates, Far North Queensland’s soul singer Rochelle Pitt, and solo artist and Cold Chisel member Ian Moss.
