BUSBY MAROU GO CANADIAN, AYE

Queensland duo Busby Marou have landed Canadian live representation with Paquin Agency.

Its roster covers music to theatre to dance, and more.

Said the agency’s Aaron Schubert,”We proudly represent world-class artists on a national and international level.

After wrapping up their final Australian tour for the year, which included sold-out shows along the East Coast, and being announced as the face of Tourism Queensland, Busby Marou took a slight break and took a recent trip to the other side of the globe.

This included a run of dates in Canada and US shows including dates in LA, one where they previewed a new song with Ben Lee which the three had just written.


RUDIMENTAL LABEL SIGNS X FACTOR CONTESTANT

Former X Factor UK contestant Ella Henderson has signed with Rudimental’s Major Toms label, which has a partnership with Asylum/Atlantic.

Henderson accompanied Rudimental on their hugely successful UK tour but it is not known if she’ll accompany them on their Australian dates in early 2019.

She was previously signed to Syco and her 2014 debut, Chapter One, debuted at No.1 in the UK and sold almost half a million copies there.


NZ CLASSICS FOR NZ MUSICAL

New Zealand movie-musical Daffodils will open in New Zealand cinemas on March 21 next year.

About playwright Rochelle Bright’s parents’ love story while growing up in NZ, the 17-track soundtrack has licensed Kiwi klassics as well as three originals from Silver Scroll-winners LIPS and Kimbra, who also stars in the film.

They are by Crowded House, Bic Runga, Chris Knox, The Mint Chicks, Dave Dobby, The Exponents, Darcy Clay, The Mutton Birds, Th’Dudes, The Senators, The Swingers and Blam Blam Blam.


 SONY/ATV EXTENDS PAN-EUROPE DEAL

Sony/ATV Music Publishing, PRS for Music, GEMA and Solar extended their agreement for the management of pan-European licences, which cover Sony/ATV and EMI Music Publishing’s Anglo-American repertoire.

In a multi-year deal, Solar – a jointly-owned subsidiary of PRS for Music and GEMA – will continue to provide administration for the catalogues in relation to digital services across Europe and other territories.


ETCETC MUSIC ADDS LUBOKU

Aussie indie etcetc, which already has a large number of electro-dance names on its roster, has added emerging Melbourne producer/songwriter Luboku (Luis Kennett).

His debut EP The Surface is out on November 23 shortly after his appearance at this year’s Electronic Music Conference in Sydney while lead-off single “50 Days” is already out.

Head of etcetc, Aden Mullens, says, “It’s been hard to ignore the talent of Luboku in 2018.

“His honest and emotive songwriting makes him an incredibly promising artist who we are proud to welcome to the etcetc family.

“We are excited to be working with Luboku towards a very bright future.”

Luboku adds, “Etcetc has a strong passion for supporting the development of Australian electronic music – exhibited in the music they represent and their dedicated team who are behind some of the biggest names in Australian electronic music currently.

“I’m very excited to be joining that team and can’t wait to continue growing the project with their support.”

Others on the etcetc slate include PNAU, Fever Ray and Bearcubs.


BECAUSE PICKS UP 50% OF SUPER!

The Because Group’s live music arm The Corida Group, one of the biggest independent promoters in France, acquired a 50% stake in promoter Super!.

Super! is behind Pitchfork Paris, Biarritz en Ete and Cabourg Mon Amour and executive produces Red Bull Music Festival.

Corida Group’s festival portfolio includes We Love Green and Peacock Festival.


GOODS COFFEE SHOP OFFERS CHANGE FOR ART

Alice Springs’ Goods Coffee Shop is supporting independent artists through its Change For Art Fund.

Over the year they have collected $1000 from the small change in their till and generous donations from their customers, which allows them to open up to applications.

As artists themselves, they’re OK for the money to be used for living costs while dedicating time for art, accessing mentorship, or paying for essential materials and resources.

RIVER LEA & ROUGHTRADE ANNOUNCE FIRST SIGNING

New UK label River Lea Records, set up under indie champs Roughtrade, has struck its first signing.

Lisa O’Neill grew up in Ballyhaise, County Cavan and now lives in Dublin.

Kevin Rowland of the Dexys calls her “a true artist – totally uncompromising with an almost naive attitude to what she does, which makes for some of the purest music I’ve heard.”

Her first album for the new label, Heard A Long Gone Song, is a collection of traditional material (including 1936’s T”he Galway Shawl”) interspersed with her own.


TEN SIGNS TWO MUSIC SHOWS

Among Network Ten’s 2019 slate are two shows which will feature music – Bring Back Saturday Night with Rove McManus and Sunday Night Takeaway, hosted by Julia Morris and Chris Brown, which is based on the UK variety format.


AWAL GOES GLOBAL WITH GABRIELLE APLIN

Kobalt’s recording company AWAL has signed a global recording and service deal with British singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin and her label, Never Fade.

Aplin has notched up a couple of international chart toppers when she was with Parlophone, and Never Fade and its acts as Saint Raymond, Hannah Grace and Sonny have generated 100 million streams.


IHEARTRADIO EXPANDS TO MEXICO

Streaming radio app iHeartMedia enters the market in Mexico on November 3, in partnership with Mexican broadcaster Grupo ACIR, which owns the Amor, Mix and La Comadre radio brands.

iHeartRadio México will include all 56 Grupo ACIR and 850 iHeartMedia broadcast radio stations and English and Spanish language podcasts.


ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL BACK TO CHINA

After making its debut in Shanghai in April, US EDM festival returns to China, this time to the southern province of Guangdong (November 24 & 25) on the grounds of a marine theme park, in a partnership with Insomniac and local promoter Zebra Entertainment Enterprise.

EDC also stages in the UK, Mexico, Japan, India and Brazil.


FALCONA LISTS GEORGE MAPLE

Falcona Agency now lists Sydney-born singer-songwriter and producer George Maple (aka Jess Higgs) among the acts it represents.


DOWNTOWN EXTENDS WITH THEOPHILUS LONDON

Artist, producer, songwriter and fashion identity Theophilus London – and Kanye West collaborator – has signed a publishing deal with Downtown.

It is his first publishing deal, and covers his back catalogue of two albums, two EPs and a handful of mixtapes.


BMG EXPANDS DIGITAL LICENSING WITH GEMA

BMG extended its long-term deal with German collection society GEMA to license digital services to an additional 48 territories including Russia, Turkey, the Middle East and Africa,

It already licenses Anglo-American repertoire to digital services through GEMA subsidiary ARESA in 38 European countries – an agreement now extended to 2021.
