triple j reveals a jam-packed run of events for Aus Music Month
Each year triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed go full Aussie in November, with a focus on local content throughout the month.
There’s more live music this year, spotlighting emerging acts as well as artists who’ve been championed by the ABC from the start of their careers.
MISSY HIGGINS & FRIENDS LIVE
Following previous ABC concert broadcasts from Crowded House and Paul Kelly, this Ausmusic Month sees Missy Higgins and buddies play an intimate show in the Melba Spiegeltent in Melbourne.
She’ll be joined by the likes of Peter Garrett, Kasey Chambers, Dan Sultan, Gretta Ray, Ben Abraham and David Higgins
It’s been almost 15 years since the arrival of Higgins’ Sound Of White album, which went on to click over 9 times Platinum and collect six ARIAs.
THE SET
The new TV show set in a share house kicks off on ABC and iview tonight (Wednesday) featuring Vera Blue with guests Illy, Baker Boy and Wafia.
Hosted by triple j’s Dylan Alcott and Linda Marigliano, from 9:30pm Wednesday & 10pm Saturday nights in November sees sets from Angus & Julia Stone, Ball Park Music, The Presets, The Rubens and more.
AUSMUSIC T-SHIRT DAY
Friday, November 16 is Ausmusic T-shirt Day, where music fans are encouraged to slip on their fave Aussie band tee, take a photo and tag it with #AusmusicTshirtDay and join triple j, ARIA and Support Act in an Australia-wide celebration.
J AWARDS
All ears will be on triple j Brekkie on Thursday, November 1 as the 2018 J Award nominees are announced.
On Friday, November 23, the Veronica & Lewis team unveils the winners of the triple j Australian Album of the Year, Double J Australian Artist of the Year, triple j Unearthed Artist of the Year and Australian Music Video of the Year (co-presented with rage) at the 2018 J Awards.
ALL AUSSIE CONTENT ALL MONTH
The much-anticipated all-Aussie Like A Version covers from 7.30am Fridays kicks off with Amy Shark this week.
Live at the Wireless sets include Courtney Barnett, Flight Facilities, Tash Sultana and Parkway Drive from 8pm Mondays, as well as the stories behind songs from The Rubens and Paul Kelly on Inspired.
Declan Byrne takes an in-depth look at the WA music scene on Home & Hosed.
Double J’s Live at The Wireless performances include The Superjesus, Dave Graney, Sarah Blasko, Steve Smyth and Missy Higgins, 7pm Tuesdays.
They’re diving deep on the J Files with Kylie, Missy Higgins and Spencer P Jones, as well as hip hop label Elefant Traks, 8pm Thursdays.
There are also clicks on Classic Albums including those from Magic Dirt, Katalyst, Ben Lee and Machine Gun Fellatio, 7pm Mondays.
Dan Sultan joins the Double J team as Artist in Residence for Ausmusic Month, 3pm Sundays.
Triple j Unearthed “will continue to support young musicians by playing non-stop unsigned and independent Australian music all day every day, year-round, providing a platform for music discovery like no other.”
Later in November, the Australian Music Vault will launch a triple j Unearthed exhibition in its immersive Amplifier section, celebrating the breadth and depth of new talent that is constantly being discovered via triple j Unearthed’s grassroots community.
