Sony Music Entertainment Australia has launched New Tribe Music, a joint venture label in conjunction with Jon Hume and Karen Hume with Melbourne singer-songwriter Kira Puru as their first signing.

“We are incredibly excited to officially welcome Jon and Karen Hume to the Sony Music family through the New Tribe Music joint venture label,” said Chairman & CEO, Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia, Sony Music Entertainment, AO, Denis Handlin.

“We have a long history together with many great successes, and their talent continues to prevail with their first signing, Kira Puru. New Tribe Music will be a new home for a diverse roster of talented Australian artists to be showcased to the world.

The new label promises to champion authentic and innovative Australia artists, with Hume himself racking up ARIA #1s with Evermore and as the co-writer of Dean Lewis‘ Be Alright.

“I couldn’t be more excited about having the chance to uncover and champion new artists under our own imprint, New Tribe Music, with Denis Handlin his amazing team at Sony Music,” said Hume.

“A huge focus for us is shining a light on the talent in Australia and delivering it to a global audience.”

Puru is also similarly stoked to be the first artistic venture for the new label, “I’m honoured to be the first artist to sign to New Tribe Music. Jon and Karen are phenomenally passionate and hardworking people who foster fantastic art of the highest quality.

“With the additional support of Denis and the Sony Music family, I feel certain that this is a wonderful home for both me and my music, and I’m very excited about what we’ll create together.”

Puru’s self-titled EP is slated for release September 20.
