Global Cities After Dark announces UK’s Hayley Child, founder of the Ask For Angela safety scheme

Global Cities After Dark has announced its latest international guest as Hayley Child, creator of the UK’s Ask For Angela.

Ask For Angela is an award-winning safety code word scheme to be used by people if they are feeling vulnerable and unsafe in a bar or club situation.

They can go to the bar and “ask for Angela”, a discreet cry for help so that staff can become involved and diffuse the situation.

Child initiated the program in 2016 in her home county of Lincolnshire, UK following an increase in internet dating related sexual violence.

The program has since pushed for drink testing kits in bars to address and prevent drink spiking in her home county, the first scheme of its kind in the UK.

The Ask For Angela program has been picked up globally, linking the private, public and third sector in order to tackle the issue.

Child is the fifth international speaker to be announced for Global Cities After Dark 2018 – a one-day and one-night forum focused on global night time culture and economy.

The forum itself is held on Tuesday, November 13 while a welcome event and night city tour is held the day before.

Child is joined by speakers from London, (Boiler Room and She Said So community manager Amanda Maxwell) Los Angeles (Loren Granich, A Club Called Rhonda), Detroit, (night time economy ambassador Adrian Tonon), Amsterdam (global night mayor Mirik Milan) and Sydney (lord mayor Clover Moore).

More speakers are to be announced.

Global Cities After Dark is presented by Electronic Music Conference (EMC) in partnership with Mirik Milan (global night mayor advocate and co-founder, Vibe Lab)
