Ruel invited to play Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw, “a dream come true”

Ruel invited to play Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw, “a dream come true”

15-year-old Sydney soul singer-songwriter Ruel has been invited to perform at Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw in Los Angeles on November 10 and 11.

He joins a star-studded cast including Tyler The Creator, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Kids See Ghosts (Kanye West & Kid Cudi), Post Malone, SZA, A$AP Rocky, The Internet and Brockhampton.

The carnival will be staged for the seventh time inside and outside the Dodger Stadium grounds, with rides and games curated by the rapper.

Ruel posted: “Tyler has been one of my favourite artists since I started wanting to become my own.

“Not saying I’m a die hard, OG fan but he has influenced me so much and not just with music.

“So, to be playing his festival is a dream come true. Holy Father Charles I’m so excited…”

Camp Flog Gnaw will be the last show on the teen’s world tour, during which he will celebrate his 17th birthday.

It starts in Japan at Summer Sonic Festival and he will be on the main stage with Chance the Rapper, Beck, Alessia Cara, Rex Orange County and Billie Eilish.

It then moves on to Europe and the US.

Signed locally to Sony Music Entertainment Australia, and globally to RCA Records, Ruel’s debut EP Ready has been streamed over 43 million times.

It was produced by his mentor, Grammy-winning Victorian-based M-Phazes.

Last week he dropped the official video for latest single Younger.

Directed by Grey Ghost, it was conceptualised as a short film and explores what it means to choose your path early on in life.

The singer-songwriter explains, “The storyline in the Younger video isn’t a direct reinterpretation of the lyrics – so instead of it being about you and your mate choosing different paths over time, it’s about choosing your own.”

Since release, Younger has so far generated half a million views on YouTube.
