Ed Sheeran does the double on ARIA’s 2017 End Of Year Charts

ARIA have unveiled their highly anticipated 2017 End Of Year Charts, collating data from the previous calendar year to determine the highest selling singles and albums in Australia.

Ed Sheeran unsurprisingly tops the Albums Chart with 7x Platinum record ÷ (Divide) spending a total of 22 weeks at #1 and remaining in the Top 10 for the entire 43 weeks after release. 2014 album Xcomes in at #8 on the chart, while the now six-year old + also makes an appearance at #12.

÷ produced four entries in the Top 10 on the ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart, which includes a #1 crown with lead cut ‘Shape Of You’ (#3 ‘Castle On The Hill’, #4 ‘Perfect’, #7 ‘Galway Girl’). Platinum track ‘Happier’ also makes the chart sneaking in at #99.

“It is a remarkable effort that has not been achieved by any artist since Eminem in 2002,” said ARIA chief executive Dan Rosen on Sheeran’s 2017 ARIA Charts double.

Charts juggernaut P!NK made her return to the scene in 2017 with multi-Platinum album Beautiful Trauma. Her Australian fanbase reacted faithfully, cementing her spot at #2 on the Albums Chart after notching 11 consecutive weeks in the Top 10. Taylor Swift rounds out the Top 3 with the most anticipated album of 2017 – Reputation.

In what was a largely successful year for Aussie artists. 27 of the Top 100 albums comes from local acts, while Australians account for nine of the Top 100 singles. Paul Kelly is the highest charting Australian artist on the Albums Chart with 23rd studio album Life Is Fine, his first ever #1 on the chart. Jessica Mauboy’s The Secret Daughter Season Two (Songs From The TV Series)is the next best Aussieat #20.

Soundtrack albums performed strongly throughout last year. Stand-outs Moana (#5), Trolls (#6) and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2(#9)find their place in the Top 10 as nine other soundtracks scatter the Top 100.
