Sydney to get two new state-of-the-art stadiums with a $2.3b price tag

Sydney’s music and sports fans will be able to increase their enjoyment at events with plans for two new state-of-the-art stadiums.

According to Seven Network, the NSW Cabinet has approved redeveloping two current main venues at a cost of $2.3 billion, with an official announcement to follow shortly.

The 30-year old Allianz Stadium at Moore Park will be demolished and rebuilt in 2018. It will have a capacity to hold 45,000 fans.

Allianz’s next concert is on Saturday, December 2 with Sia, Charli XCX, MØ, and Amy Shark.

The ANZ Stadium in Olympic Park will begin renovations in 2019 and will open in 2022 as rectangular-shaped and with a 75,000— 80,000-capacity.

The next music acts to tread its stage are the Foo Fighters on January 27, and Ed Sheeran on March 15, 16 and 17.

Whether the new venues will be able to fill out, as the Opposition seems to think they won’t, remains to be seen.

When former Premier Mike Baird mooted the project two years ago, the cost was just $1.6 billion.

That included the new $300 million Western Sydney Stadium in Parramatta (with 30,000 seats), which has begun construction for a 2019 opening.

Early designs suggest it will “revolutionise the spectator experience.”
