Fast Facts: August 25
Liam Payne locks down the TMN Hot 100 again as another One Direction member begins to slip. ‘Strip That Down’ ft. Quavo now has six unbroken weeks at the top– that’s more than The Chainsmokers&Coldplay’s ‘Something Just Like This’ (5 weeks) and James Arthur’s ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ (5 weeks), making it one of the top performing singles of the year.
It still has a bit of work to do to topple Danish band Lukas Graham’s ‘7 Years’, which spent eight consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 in 2015.
There are two new entrants in the Top 5 this week and both are new peaks. P!NK rockets to #2 after ‘What About Us’ debutedat #9 the previous week. Naturally, as it happens when artists make their return to the scene, a single from the catalogue always seems to crop up. Last week it was ‘So What’ at #97 and now it’s her Alice In Wonderland track ‘Just Like Fire’ creeping in at #98.
Niall Horancontinues to slip –’Slow Hands’ drops out of the Top 5 to #6.
‘Your Song’ by Rita Orajumps in at #5 (a new peak), tracking a very similar path to Zedd & Alessia Cara’s track ‘Stay’. They both debuted in the 30s, and after 13 weeks in the chart, sit in almost identical positions. ‘Your Song’ has a slight edge, cracking the Top 10 after only three weeks compared to ‘Stay’’s five.
Sam Hunt must wait another week for a Top 10 appearance after remaining steady at #11 with ‘Body Like A Back Road’. As it was at the start, the entire national Nova network is still steering the track at commercial, spinning the track twice as much of both individual KIIS stations.
Meanwhile at #91, and perhaps not making the impact we had expected, is Little Mix’s team-up with Latin boy band CNCO, ‘Reggaeton Lento’. It’s still early days for the track, which has plenty of room to move over the coming weeks. Little Mix’s breakout hit ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ is still going strong at #79 as it closes in on one year in the chart.
