Hot 100 fast facts: July 28

The One Direction showdown continues on the latest issue of the Hot 100 as Liam Payne successfully fends off Niall Horan for a second straight week.

Payne now has two singles floating in the upper half of the chart, ‘Strip That Down’ ft. Quavo and Zedd collab ‘Get Low’ further down at #34.

Notching his fourteenth week on the chart, Shawn Mendes’ ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’ is proving to be remarkably resilient, considering the competition building up around him.

DJ Khaled’s ‘Wild Thoughts’ ft. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller is arguably Mendes’ greatest threat. Despite multi-Platinum hit ‘I’m The One’ – with its decorated features list, seemingly slipping off the radar, Khaled remains a major player in the chart as ‘Wild Thoughts’ continues its swift run to the top.

The only debut this week comes in the form of Louis Tomlinson’s ‘Back To You’ ft. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals. The track was tipped for radio success by TMN last week and accordingly landed at #31, three places above Vance Joy’s ‘Lay It On Me’ debut the previous week.

Speaking of Vance Joy, the Aussie hitmaker is in red hot form, with new single ‘Lay It On Me’ catapulting to #9 from #34 on only its second week.

Neither ‘Fire And The Flood’, nor triple j’s 2011 Hottest 100 winner ‘Riptide’, match up to the comeback single’s Hot 100 storm. ‘Fire And The Flood’ hit #10 from #40 on its second week, while ‘Riptide’ only managed to reach #47.

Needless to say, both singles went on to firmly secure their spotsin the Top 3 for numerous weeks on end. With the track firmlybacked by every major commercial radio network in Australia, ‘Lay It On Me’ is well and truly on its way to matching, and possibly out-performing all of Vance’s hits.
