ARIA Awards telecast return to Nine Network (again)

After 25 years since the inaugural broadcast, the television rights to the annual ARIA Awards is leaving the hands of Network Ten and shifting back to the Nine Network from this year.

While the flip-flopping between networks is nothing new for the awards night (the event switched from TEN to Nine back in 2009 and back again in 2010)the television broadcast did enjoy some renewed success last year to mark the 30th anniversary of the show.

Last year’s telecast was seen by 586,000 people –a record-high rating, well ahead of the previous years’ ratings of 461,000.

Ratings for the broadcast have slowly recovered from the dip in viewership experienced in 2012, when numbers hit 304,000.

Head of Content, Partnerships and Development at Nine Network Australia Adrian Swift recognised the opportunity to continue to celebrate the pinnacle of Australian music.

“This is a fantastic addition to our commitment in bringing premium live events and entertainment to viewers across Australia,” he said.

“Together we will create great event TV, with the ARIA stage set to showcase our Australian artistswho are topping the charts here and around the world,” ARIA Chief ExecutiveDan Rosen added.

Despite Network Ten being plagued by recent financial trouble, that has not been identified as the cause of the move to the Nine Network.

The 31st Annual ARIA Awards is set to take place onTuesday November 28and will be broadcast from Sydney aroundthe country.
