Midweek chart predictions: July 12

We examine the movers, debuts and slow burners on the charts this week so far, and try to predict what will be #1.

Overseas under the microscope

After a 61 week run, The Chainsmokers have finally dropped out of the Top 10 in the U.S., ending their dominating reign of the Billboard Top 100.While their impressive run in the charts beat out Drake’s achievement of 51 consecutive weeks, Katy Perry still holds the title for the longest run, with a full 69 weeks in the Top 10 thanks to her Teenage Dream album in 2010/2011.

Coinciding with the Billboard Top 100, The Chainsmokers have also dropped out of the Top 10 on TMN’s Hot 100after an impressive 19 week stint.

Despite becoming RIAA certified platinum after just six days, JAY-Z’s latest album 4:44 has failed to register on the Billboard 100 radar– becauseTidal did not report their streaming numbers to Nielsen Music, the company that compiles data utilised by Billboard to determine rankings.

But the hip-hop legend’s 13th studio album should make an appearance in the July 22 chart, as it’s starting to appear on other services (though not Spotify yet).

Demi Lovato has made a name for herself going against the trend, and she continued to do so this week by dropping a new single on a Tuesday. Not only did the release of ’Sorry Not Sorry’ coincide with frenemy Selena Gomez teasing her new single, Lovato also called her new song “an anthem for anyone who’s ever been hated on and has risen above it and come out from the other side like af-ing savage”.

Following the success of ’Despacito’, singer Daddy Yankee has become the first Latino artist to reach No. 1 on Spotify. Not only that, but his current hit single –which also features fellow Puerto RicanLuis Fonsi, as well as Justin Bieberon the remix – is also the first Spanish-language song to top the charts since ’Macarena’ in 1996.

’Despacito’ is currently the top song in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany, Sweden, NZ, Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland and Norway. The track sits comfortably at #1 in Australia on both the ARIA Singles chart and the Hot 100, where it has remained steadfast for four consecutive weeks.

The home front

Ahead of their Splendour in the Grass appearance later this month, HAIM return to the charts with the release of their second studio album Something to Tell You. The Los Angeles sisters are back four years after the release of their debut album Days Are Gone, which peaked at #2 on the ARIA charts. Will they go one better this time around?

JAY-Z also has the opportunity to sneak into the top of the album charts with the acclaimed 4:44, while DJ Khaled’s superstar-packed Gratefulis showing no signs of disappearing from the Top 20 anytime soon.

In terms of singles, Kesha’s triumphant return ’Praying’ should crack the Top 20 on debut this week, with Macklemore’s solo effort ’Glorious’ ft. Skylar Grey also on the radar and on the up.

Crystal ball predictions

TOP PICK: Calvin Harris’ banger ’Feels’ ft.Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean to jump up at least five spots in the singles chart.

DARK HORSE:HAIM’s Something to Tell Youto debut at #2 on the ARIA album chart.
