Lorde soars to the top of Hot 100

Charts & New Music Editor

After vying for the top spot on the Hot 100 for six weeks, Lorde has finally made the jump to #1 with Green Light. The track pushes out The Chainsmokers & Coldplay’s Something Just Like This, which drops to #2 on TMN’s audience-weighted airplay chart.

Green Light begins what is set to be an influx of Lorde songs to contend the charts in the coming months. The New Zealand star took the stage at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the weekend, debuting new song Homemade Dynamite which features on her upcoming album Melodrama due out in June – check it out in the video below this story.

Lorde has also jumped to #2 on the Artist Top 50, a peak position in the chart for her. This time, however, Green Light failed to reach the top, with Something Just Like This remaining firmly rooted at #1 for another week.

As expected, Harry Styles’ new Sign Of The Times made an instant impact at radio last week. It debuts at #3 on the Hot 100, boasting a significant amount of airplay around the country and smashing the TMN Hot 100 record for the highest debut. As of last Thursday, the track had been played 650 times across the main commercial stations from the KIIS, Hit and Nova networks.

Sign Of The Times is also the Most Added track to radio after featuring as the #1 New Single Release in the last Singles Report. The track was adopted by all major commercial stations across the country.

Meanwhile, after much speculation surrounding the outcome of the latest ARIA Singles Chart, Sign Of The Times has in fact taken the #1 spot, thwarting Ed Sheeran’s hopes of holding the longest-running single in the chart’s 34-year history.

The Australian Singles Reportwill return next week.
