First quarter Hot 100 market share: UMA on top, but only just
Universal Music Australia leadsSony Music Entertainment by a slim margin of 315 points (4.29%) in the first quarter TMN Hot 100 market share results.
Universal hold an impressive 38.59% with Sony taking 34.3% of the entire Hot 100 chart.
Warner Music Australia holds 17.47% of the overall market share, despite owning top two singles Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran.
While the three majors dominate 90.36% of the chart, local independent labels Inertia, Mushroom and MGM, as well as independent artists, take the rest with 5.84%, 3.03%, 0.51% and 0.26%, in that order.
Looking specifically at the top 40 singles in the chart, Universal and Sony’s share remains relatively stagnant with Sheeran’s strong 2017 thus far seeing Warner’s market share rise by nearly 2%.
