Musitec Announces 2016 TechJam Challenge Theme

PRESS RELEASE:

On Wednesday 31st August the 2016 Connected Music City Challenge was officially launched by the Hon. John Gazzola MLC. The theme ’Digital Play in Musical Spaces’ was announced to reflect Musitec’s partnership with the Academy of Interactive Entertainment and aims to provide a platform for people of all backgrounds to collaborate and create compelling experiences in Adelaide using music and technology as tools. A complete program of events was also announced at the launch event. Team registrations opened Wednesday 31st August, and will be open to anyone interested until the 30th September 2016.

The program of events will commence with a product development workshop to be held on Saturday 1st October, at which challenge participants will have the opportunity to hear from industry leaders about their experiences in music, technology and entrepreneurship. The second half of the event will be dedicated to providing time for teams to have one on one meetings with industry-leading mentors to discuss concepts and listen to feedback from a range of talented professionals.

At the second event the Academy of Interactive Entertainment will host a prototyping weekend on the 15th & 16th October. The weekend will be run as a workshop, and each of the teams will have access to the tools they need to turn their concept into a prototype, ready for the Judging Showcase. Assistance will be available throughout the course of the weekend, to ensure the process is as accessible and user friendly as possible.

The final event of the challenge will be the Judging Showcase on the 24th October. As part of the information pack, a set of criteria, which judges will assess you against will be included. The venue will be set up so that each team has a booth or table to showcase their prototype. Members of the public will be also invited to attend the showcase along with a panel of industry leading judges. The judges will not be announced until they leave the room to deliberate; and the public attending will also contribute to the vote and will contribute to the judges decision on the overall winner.

Prizes include:

– Access to IBM’s Global Entrepreneur Program valued at $24,000;

– $2000 cash courtesy of Adelaide City Council;

– Access to a choice of selected Certificate II courses thanks to the Academy of Interactive Entertainment;

– A Flinders New Venture Dorm Scholarship;
