Report: Sydney nightlife bolstered by new Action Plan
The Sydney Night-Time Economy Roundtable has proven to be beneficial in the bid to boost Sydney’s flailing live sector with a host of innovative ideas being proposed in a new report.
Among the new ideas are plans to extend public transport operating hours and keep shops and live music venues open later in the evening, ultimately serving to increase vibrancy and safety in Sydney’s nightlife scene.
The report also confirms an eagerness to utilise available technology, proposing an idea to develop an app that delivers real-time updates on entertainment options in Sydney.
Held over three separate roundtable events between March and May this year, representatives from the music industry, government and community took part in extensive discussions that produced 25 proposed actions to bolster the night-time economy.
The proposed ideas will be taken up and considered by respective portfolio Ministers who will determine the viability and prospects of implementation for each new idea.
The outcomes of the report were released by Deputy Premier Troy Grant. The Deputy Premier sees the report as a significant step forward in consolidating Sydney’s status as a leading global city, while upholding safety as a key priority.
“I’m delighted these discussions have come up with some really innovative ideas for the Government’s consideration,” Grant said.
Grant noted that many of the suggestions that came forward were out of the scope of the Callinan Review, the review of the 1.30amlock outand 3am cessation of liquor sales laws in Sydney.
“[But they] are none the less worthy of consideration as part of the government’s mission to make Sydney’s nightlife safer and more vibrant.”
