The first 100 days of The Beatles on Spotify in numbers
I read the news today, oh boy, about a lucky band that made the grade. The first 100 days of Beatles music on Spotify has seen over a quarter of a billion plays, the streaming service reported.
Or if you want to look at it another way, that’s 2,793 years’ worth of listening. Remember, that’s just one streaming platform so it would be several more thousand years if you factor in their availability at the same time on Apple Music, Google Play, Pandora and Tidal.
The Fab Four made their catalogue available for streaming on Christmas Eve 2015, with the three-part Anthology introduced last week.
Spotify released its full lowdown on the figures:
6.5 million monthly listeners worldwide.
65% of Beatles listeners are male, 35% female.
67% of Beatles listeners are under the age of 35.
The most obsessed Australian Beatles streamers are aged between 25 to 34.
The Beatles have been more popular on Spotify than Sia, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer, all of whom topped the US Billboard charts in recent years.
The Beatles were added to more than 4.2 million playlists.
Top 4 countries listening to The Beatles: USA, UK, Mexico and Sweden.
While Beatles records were dominated by Lennon-McCartney compositions, the most streamed song in Australia (and also globally) is the George Harrison-penned Here Comes The Sun. It was from Abbey Road, and captured the exhilaration the guitarist felt at avoiding a day of talking business at Apple Records and enjoying the warmth of the sun in the garden of best friend Eric Clapton’s country garden. It is followed by Hey Jude (for long their best selling single in Australia and third best seller of all time in this country), Let It Be and I Want to Hold Your Hand.
Top 4 most listened-to tracks in the UK: Here Comes The Sun, Hey Jude, I Want To Hold Your Hand and Twist And Shout.
Top 4 most listened-to albums in Australia: 1, Abbey Road, The Beatles and Let It Be.
Top 4 most listened-to albums in the UK: 1, Abbey Road, The Beatles and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
In Australia, Sydney is the biggest Beatles city, followed by Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
The four cities where Beatles music is most streamed: Mexico City, London, Santiago Chile and Los Angeles.
London is the UK city where Beatles music is most streamed, then Manchester, their hometown Liverpool and Glasgow.
Thursday is the most popular day for Beatles streaming, and 10 am AEST the most common time in Australia.
