The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) has revealed two changes to its Board.

The Board has added Kristy Gostelow as its inaugural Board Observer, while JoAnne Volta joins to replace Lindy Morrison, who stepped down last year after a 27-year stint.

Gostelow is the founder and director of the boutique Kadence Group, as well as the managing director of independent music label Lovely Records. Her career has spanned artist management, music business mentoring and grant writing services.

She also won APRA AMCOS’ The Lighthouse Award last year, which recognises the passion, integrity and creativity of a female or non-binary artist manager.

The PPCA’s Observership Program was established in partnership with The Oberservership Program, which places talented individuals into Board environments to expose them to the decision-making and operational realities of Boards. It aims to provide practical experience and ongoing networking opportunities for future leaders.

The same program recently placed Universal’s Michelle Tier as ARIA’s Board Observer.

Volta, meanwhile, is a songwriter, composer and independent self-managed artist. She boasts 30 years in the music industry and has assisted artists with recovering copyrights and royalties.

PPCA’s chair, George Ash, welcomed both new recruits.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Kristy as this year’s participant in the PPCA Board Observership Program,” he said. “Her extensive knowledge of the business involved in record company management and Australian recording artists will bring valuable insight.

“I am also very glad to welcome JoAnne to the Board and congratulate her on this achievement.”

Gostelow said she’s delighted to be the first Board Observer for PPCA and get first-hand exposure to how Boards work.

“Being a professional music practitioner is a precarious vocation and I’m looking forward to promoting the value of recorded music and giving back to the industry,” she added.

Volta, also the first self-managed artist to be elected to the Music Managers Forum Board, said it was wonderful to come on board as the artist representative.

“I look forward to learning lots from the very talented and experienced Board members while supporting artists during a globally challenging time for music,” she said.

“Australian music is among the best in the world and I am proud to be an Australian recording artist, songwriter and performer.”
