The Kid LAROI, Tkay Maidza among Aussie 2022 NME Awards winners
Genesis Owusu, The Kid LAROI, Amyl & The Sniffers, Tkay Maidza and King Stingray were announced as Australian-specific winners of the Bandlab NME Awards.
The five now go on to compete in equivalent global categories at the awards, held on March 2 at the O2 Academy in Brixton, London.
So far, Halsey, Sam Fender, Griff and Rina Sawayama are announced to perform, with more acts to be unvailed over the coming weeks.
On the heels of their If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power album, Halsey will be honoured at the show with the Innovation Award.
“The BandLab NME Awards 2022 seems more about a celebration of a bunch of people who are contemporaries rooting each other on,” Halsey said.
“I don’t get many opportunities to celebrate with my peers and look around and be like, ‘Wow, this was a great year for music’ and that’s why we do this – we love it, y’know?”
NME Parent company BandLab Technologies in November announced it had combined its media titled – including Guitar.com, Uncut and MusicTech – to form new media group, NME Networks.
