Future Classic, EMC & FBi Radio to share over $1M in music grants

Contemporary music gained almost $1 million of the $9.37 million given to the NSW arts and cultural sector this week, through Round 1 of Create NSW’s Arts and Cultural Funding Program.

In total, 198 recipients from all disciplines shared $9,371,594 million, with 11 music’s organisations, programs and projects getting a share in almost $700,000.

Future Classic received a grant of $25,000 to establish a dedicated writing, recording and streaming space from a shopfront below its offices in Redfern, Sydney.

It will partner with other local management companies and organisations to run programs in the space for artists and independent managers and be utilised for various artist projects.

Electronic Music Conference received $29,800 for a six-month intensive professional development Next Generation scholarship for three emerging NSW-based artists.

Industry experts will provide weekly one-on-one sessions on music making, management, marketing, PR and promotion, live performance development and DIY music releases.

FBi Radio’s DJ training and mentoring of the next generation of women, non-binary and trans talent in dance music received $35,000 to bolster its programs.

$58,998 goes to Information and Cultural Exchange’s Picture Of Everything, a music development, recording and distribution project for 11 emerging artists from the Club Weld program for marginalised, neurodiverse, and intellectually disabled musicians.

The inaugural Orange Winter Jazz Festival has $48,000 to showcase top jazz musicians alongside musicians from the NSW Central West, giving them work.

Just over $400,000 was allocated to 21 individual and group projects.

These included regional tours, recording of new albums, mentoring, rural band opportunities, residencies, studios in community spaces, queer-led EDM projects and free piano performances.
