Empire of the Sun, Flume, Josef Salvat, up for UK sync awards

Globally renowned Australian acts Empire of the Sun, Josef Salvat and Flume are among the finalists in the UK’s Music Week Sync Awards. They are held on October 15 at London’s Bloomsbury Ballroom.

Empire of the Sun and Salvat are both in the International Breakout category.

Empire of the Sun’s Welcome to My Life was used in an Absolut Vodka ad as part of its Absolute Nights campaign aimed at the nightlife in Brooklyn, Johannesburg, Sao Paolo and Berlin. The ad also ran in cinemas and late night TV shows, and on social media. At the time, Absolut’s Director of Marketing, Nick Guastaferro, said, "Absolut as a brand has a history of collaborating with breakthrough visionaries," he said, "and we really felt Empire of the Sun really demonstrates what we are known for: making music that transcends reality and goes beyond the ordinary."

Sydney-born singer songwriter Josef Salvat’s cover of Rihanna’s Diamonds (from his In Your Prime EP) was used by Sony to showcase the picture quality of the Bravia Ultra HD 4K televisions. The ad was shot in Whistler, Canada.

Also in the International Breakthrough are MØ’s Pilgrim used by Armani; Glass Animals’s Black Mambo by iPhone, Hardware & Software; Royal Blood’s Out Of The Black by Beats Headphones USA and various artists for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

Flume’s The Greatest View is in the Trailer (for Video Games) section for its use in Assassin’s Creed Unity. He is up against Muse (for Mercy on Batman: Arkham Knight), Kyle Andrews (The Way To Wonder for LittleBigPlanet 3, GamesCom), Torre Florim (Firestarter in Just Cause 3) and Etta James (Stormy Weather for Until Dawn).

Nominated for Sync Artist of the Year are Birdy, Clean Bandit, Gabrielle Aplin, The Heavy and Mark Ronson.

Other categories cover movies, TV (drama, sports), trailers, online and most Shazamed.
