Neighbourhood network Nextdoor creates #TheNeighbourhoodPlaylist
Over 1,000 of the country’s favourite tracks have been compiled in a playlist sourced from across Australia’s neighbourhoods.
#TheNeighbourhoodPlaylist, now on Spotify, called on users of Nextdoor to nominate their favourite tracks which have been the soundtrack of their generation.
Nextdoor is an online neighbourhood network for people to learn about the businesses in their area, connect with neighbours and share information about local events, changes and happenings.
The organisation said the playlist of 1,092 tracks reflects the great diversity in neighbourhoods across the country. It features classic songs from the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, ABBA, Elvis and Sinatra, as well as local hits from John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and Tina Arena. In addition, it showcases homegrown talent from local neighbourhoods.
Head of Nextdoor Australia, Jennie Sager, said the organisation wanted to create a kinder world where everyone has a neighbour, and a neighbourhood, to rely on. Music, she said, is a great way to build new connections with people.
“We asked Nextdoor neighbours to share the tracks that keep them smiling, and that’s how #TheNeighbourhoodPlaylist was created. You may not agree with your neighbours on politics or local issues, but everyone can share the love of a great song,” she said.
“2021 has been a challenging year for all of us. Now with lockdowns behind us, what better way to connect with neighbours, have a BBQ with family and friends, crank up the neighbourhood playlist and entertain all generations this summer with a smile.”
The playlist is available on Spotify.
